Meet our founder: Rebecca Pirko
Rebecca Pirko is a Twin Cities-based artist from Rochester, MN. The bright, bold colors of the natural world intrigue her. Whether it’s a bright fish in a coral reef or a brilliant toucan in the rainforest, her work instills an inner awe towards the natural world. Her current works focus on her spiritual connection to the world, explored through poetry, music, clay, and various drawing mediums. She works to give back to causes she cares about through donating and making a difference in honor of the world we inhabit. Sustainability and environmentalism are dear values to her, and she works to make her business as emission-free as possible through recycled shipping. Through her various travels, Rebecca gains insights and new inspiration for her art. Follow along for Rebecca's various "scuttles" and adventures deepening in the art world!
pirkopalooza’s story
For as long as I can remember, lions have been my favorite animal. Ever since I was gifted a small light blue lion plush (Jangles) as a child, I never stopped adoring lions. You would catch little Rebecca nose deep in research about lions and big cats from books at the public library. There were constantly documentaries streaming at my house about lions and coral reefs. This obsession was my earliest childhood fascination: something about how cute they are, yet, how mighty and dangerous they are allured me. That opposition was something early Rebecca couldn’t put words to, but kept searching and scavenging for more.
Orchi, where did that come from? The word orozlán means lion in Hungarian. My first language was Hungarian, as my whole family is from Hungary. I couldn’t fully pronounce orozlán, and would sputter out - ORCHI. This became a favorite of my grandparents and parents alike, so the word stuck. They know me as the orozlány-lány, or lion girl, to this day. This childhood sentiment and fascination for lions mirrors my company values. I continue to harbor a deep desire to learn about the world around me, and hold this inner child’s fascination with me through life. In all the works I produce, I hope to bring your inner awe and adoration out through PirkoPalooza.
Coming from my heart straight to yours, I hope you love PirkoPalooza as much as I have loved nurturing and creating it<333
Meet the creative team
Hi! My name is Archit (He/Him), I am a local creative from Minnesota! I reached out to Rebecca about turning PirkoPalooza into a brand, and I had so much fun throughout this process. I was in charge of the creative direction behind how the Nostalgia Collection photoshoot would look like as well taking those photos as well. I also worked on building this website from the ground up! Here is my portfolio :)
